Pekarna nominated for its INFOPEKA
INFOPEKA has been nominated as 'The Youth Centre with the highest programme quality in Slovenia', by the Ministry of Education and Sport and its Office for Youth.
Lots of good news are coming form Pekarna magdalenske mreže (Maribor, Slovenia). Despite poor funding, lack of adequate premises and being under-staffed, Pekarna's Youth Informative-Counselling Centre INFOPEKA has been nominated as 'The Youth Centre with the highest programme quality in Slovenia', by the Ministry of Education and Sport and its Office for Youth. Once again it's been proved that no amount of support and funding can substitute imagination and dedication!
Another reason for celebrations at Pekarna these days is the launch of an online platform for information exchange and structural support for enhacement of the volunteer-work in the region, connecting over 47 organisations (http://www.prostovoljstvo-mb.si/). Furthermore, Pekarna has been 'attacked' by a crew from Stanica, led by Tomáš Marný, Czech republic's best light designer of 2008. The participants of his »art of light« workshop will use their newly agained skills in order to make the Pekarna events look better than ever before. The mastermind behind the attack is Pekarna's EVS volunteer from Stanica, Dušan Dobiaš.
And last, but not least; negotiations with City of Maribor about new governance model of soon-to-be-renovated Pekarna continue in positive direction. The New Times New Models conference in January gave governance models a fresh start and new ideas, but, quoting Marko Brumen, programme coordinator and former TEH delegate: "the start of the renovation is however still dragging due to mysterious incompetence on part of the city officials".
